Well made bottle but water tastes like metal! 2009-07-29

I bought this bottle about 2 months ago and was pretty excited to be NOT buying bottles of water at work anymore, not drinking from plastic bottles, and with the idea that I can bring my great tasting RO purified water from home for (relatively) free.

This bottle seems well made, it doesn't leak, and is relatively easy to clean and use. I wanted desperately to like this product but have given up on it because no matter what I do to the bottle the water ends up tasting like metal when I drink it.

I don't care how well made the product is -- it fails in its primary duty if the water that comes from it has a strong steel aftertaste, particularly the water from the bottom of the bottle.

I will call the manufacturer to see if they have any suggestions before pitching it -- I guess I'll be trying the Sigg bottles next. They may keep secret what their inner lining is made of but at least I can hopefully drink from their bottles w/o a steel aftertaste.

Its solid wide cap will not leak. The steel has no odor and is easy to clean. Excellent design!

"Sweats" way too much! 2009-07-25

This is a solid and attractive bottle overall, but I was extremely disappointed by the amount of water that it "sweats" / the high condensation. I like to put a lot of ice cubes into my water (which is easy to do with the wide opening), but within seconds the entire exterior is line with water droplets and I am forced to keep a paper towel around it. And this layer will keep re-forming after each wipe for at least 10 minutes, until the water has finally cooled down a bunch (but I like it cold!). This is extremely aggravating!
Also, on a side note, it squeaks whenever I drink from it! This is more bearable, but still annoying.

Great alternative to plastic, but not perfect 2009-07-24

If you're interested in replacing plastic bottles with something reusable, this is a great way to go. The Klean Kanteen is lightweight, eco-friendly, and easy to use, with a slim design that fits just about anywhere a plastic bottle can fit. However, it's also not made to endure impact, it doesn't have an entirely secure top, and it doesn't keep water very pure. If you're interested in the sport top, the Klean Kanteen Sport Cap 2.0 is a must-have!

I've been using the 27oz bottle for a little over a month now, and I have very few complaints. I like to drink a lot of water, so I take this just about everywhere I go. It's seen a lot of use already.

The shape and size are very convenient. I've found that it fits nicely in cupholders and bags even though it holds more than a typical disposable water bottle. It also keeps liquid cooler than a typical disposable, however it isn't insulated by any means, so don't expect your water to stay ice cold for too long. Also, if the KK is left in the heat for a while, the water has a slightly off-taste, but that depends a lot on how clean the water is when you put it in the bottle.

The bottle is lightweight, making it easy to carry around, but this also has made it prone to dents. I've only dropped it once so far - one small dent - but I get the feeling that if I'm not careful I could easily render it useless. Luckily, I'm not hiking the AT or anything.

The threading on the KK bottle is a little looser than I would like it to be. It certainly makes screwing the top on and off a cinch, but it also means the bottle occasionally leaks. If you're using the standard flat top and you screw it on very firmly, I think it would be safe to store horizontally, but I also think the top tends to work it's own way loose.

I bought the sport top separate so I could get the Klean Kanteen Sport Cap 2.0, which is much better than the sport top available with the bottle. Not only does it have a large loop that fits most fingers and a carabeener, but it's also easy to drink from.

Overall, this is a great product, and I would highly recommend it to people who are fairly or moderately active.

Large, Qaulity, Attractive, Steel -- Great 2009-07-21

I got the plain steel 40oz with the flat cap.

Flat caps are hard to find, annoyingly enough, because most companies insist on putting on the loop caps or 'sippy spout.' I was glad to have the option to choose the cap type with this Kleen Kanteen.

The bottle itself is just as advertised: large and made of stainless steel. No complaints.
